How to Link Your Phone to a Windows computer

  • Start the app called “Settings” on your computer.
  • Click the Phone Option button next.
  • Click the “Add a phone” button, as shown below. Choose the type of phone you want to add in the next window.
  • Click “Continue” to link to the next page.
  • Type in your working cell phone number and click Send. Microsoft will send you a text message with the link to download the Phone Companion app, which is needed to connect your phone to your computer.
  • Click the link to download Microsoft’s “Your Phone Companion” app.
  • After you’ve downloaded and installed the app, open it and scan the QR code on aka.ms/phonelinkqrc.

Your phone is now connected to your computer.

  • Continue tapping after approving access to the camera.
  • To scan the code, get your phone closer to the computer.

  • On the following screen, select continue.
  • The software can run in the background if you choose.
  • Although more practical, this will reduce battery life.

How can I add a link to a Windows application on my Android phone?

  5. You’ll see a message that says “Is the QR code ready on your PC?”. If yes, then accept the required permissions and hold your phone up to the QR code on your computer to scan it. If that doesn’t work, you may need to enter a PIN instead.
  6. Tap ‘Continue’ on your phone, then tap ‘Continue’ on your desktop.

To connect your phone and PC, follow the steps below:

  1. On your desktop, search for ‘Phone Link’ and select the corresponding option.
  2. Click ‘Get Started’ on the screen that appears.
  3. Under ‘Sign in with Microsoft’, click ‘Sign in’.
  4. Enter the email and password of the account you want to use.
  5. On your Android device, visit aka.ms/phonelinkqrc. This will prompt you to download the app from Google Play Store. Click ‘Install’ to get started.
  6. Once downloaded, open the app and select ‘Link your phone and PC’.
  7. From your desktop browser, go to aka.ms/phonelinkqrc. This should automatically open in the Phone Link app on your phone.
  8. After a few seconds, a QR code will be created.
  9. On your phone, tap ‘Continue’ and approve permission to access the camera.
  10. Bring your phone closer to your computer to scan the code. The final steps will be completed on your Android device.
  11. Accept permissions for contacts, calls, SMS, photos and other media.
  12. Tap ‘Continue’ and choose if you want the app to run in the background. This is more convenient, but it will affect your battery life.
  13. Select ‘Done’ on your phone and ‘Continue’ on your computer.
