Nissan QR20DE 2.0L Engine

The less powerful and smaller Nissan QR20DE engine took the place of the well-known Nissan SR20DE engine.

The cylinder block of the QR20DE is made of aluminium.

It was outfitted with a VVT intake camshaft, an electronic throttle, reworked cylinder heads, balanced shafts to ensure smooth operation, and a host of other minor improvements.

In the QR20DE, hydraulic tappets are not present. Every 60,000 miles, you should check the valve gap.

Nissan QR20DE 2.0L Engine Problems & Reliability

The QR20DE is the next generation of Nissan’s legendary SR20DE engine. The Nissan X-Trail was the first vehicle to have this feature added.

This motor got a new crankshaft with an 83 mm piston stroke, a new cylinder block made of aluminium, and pistons with a dome that measures 89 mm in diameter.

The overall length of the QR20DE connecting rods is 153 mm.

All-new cylinder heads are installed. The engine utilizes CVTC (continuously variable valve timing) and features dual camshafts.

Since the QR20DE doesn’t have hydraulic lifters, the valve clearance needs to be adjusted every 60,000 miles (90,000 km).

In older vehicles, valve clearance is rarely altered until a noticeable rattle develops in the engine.

This motor features a dual balancer shaft, an electronic throttle body, and individual ignition coils that all contribute to the motor’s remarkably refined and balanced operation.

It’s worth noting that a variant equipped with a direct injection system, the QG20DD, was also manufactured.

The QR20 is the smaller of the two engines in Nissan’s QR series; the QR25DE is the larger of the two.

Naturally, the new MR20DE arrived in 2005 and supplanted the QR20DE.

Nissan QR20DE 2.0L Engine FAQ

Is Qr20 engine reliable?

We’ve only ever had to change the cam and crank sensors, and other than that, we’ve had very few issues with the engine.

Which car uses Qr20 engine?

The Nissan Caravan kept its RWD QR20DE option available. Use in Motor Vehicles, 2001-2007 The 140 hp Nissan X-Trail T30 (103 kW) (2001-2007) Nissan Primera P12

Does 2.0 engine consume more fuel?

An engine with a displacement of 2.0 litres or more may be more powerful than one with 1.2 litres, but it will also consume significantly more fuel.
