ADVERTISEMENTS

The Husqvarna 359 is a popular chainsaw with 59cc and 3.6 hp, but it can be hard to find.

Those who are lucky enough to own one love it and rarely (if ever) have anything bad to say about it.

About Husqvarna 359 Chainsaw Specs

Dan and his wife Naomi run Fire & Saw! Information about it is given here.

Who is Dan and how did he get into Chainsaw?

He grew up in the city and didn’t use chainsaws that much. They live in cold climates, and wood fire stoves are basically in every home and are used for 8 months of the year.

Gathering, cutting, and stacking wood has always been a part of life, but usually, there was something else at the end of this saw!

Several years ago they bought a hobby farm (or lifestyle block, as it was called), previously covered in pine, macrocarpa, and gum trees.

Most of the trees were cut down and removed before they went in, but there were dozens of large gums and macrocarpas that fell and were left behind. This was when he bought his first chainsaw and fell in love!

His chainsaw collection is still pretty small (a Husky, a Stihl, and a cheap Chinese saw that goes really well), but he’ll add to it as Naomi lets him.

he loves nothing more than getting down in the yard and trees with a saw and trying out new chainsaws, and he hopes to do more of that in the future. Those trees are not going to cut themselves!

We hope the information we share here is helpful.

Husqvarna 359 Chainsaw Specs

Even though the Husqvarna 359 is not a pro-level saw, it is one of the best saws for home use.

It works well at home and on the farm and can be used a lot. The saw will happily run for a long time every day.

It’s a great unit for people who process between 5 and 10 cords of wood per year.

It has been used for a long time by professional chainsaw users, and tree fellers and arborists like to use it.

In addition to cutting firewood, it is often used to:

  • Pruning trees
  • Limbing trees
  • Dropping smaller trees

The 359 is not a good chainsaw for milling or cutting down bigger trees. It also won’t work well if you use it for 10 hours a day, every day of the week. For that kind of work, you’d be better off with a chainsaw made for logging.

It’s a very reliable saw that should last more than 10 years if it’s used, cared for, and kept in good shape.

Husqvarna 359 E-Tech

The muffler on the 359 E Tech is different from the one on the first model.

It’s a catalytic muffler, which is less popular in the Husky community because it’s thought to make them run hotter.

Husqvarna says, “E-TECH engines are the best in terms of power, efficiency, and handling. They have a lot of power and aren’t too heavy. They also have less pollution and are easy to use.

Having a Husqvarna 359 muffler mod done by someone who knows what they are doing can help.

Husky 359 Bar And Chain

The 359 is meant to be used with a bar between 13 and 20 inches long, but some people have used it with longer bars.

Most people who own this saw use a bar that is 18 or 20 inches long.

When a new Husqvarna 359 could be bought, it usually came with a 20-inch bar.

What kind of chainsaw chain you use will depend on the bar and what you are cutting. A 3/8-chain pitch is good, but so is a. 325-chain pitch.

If you’re using a bar that’s 20 inches long, this chain from Amazon should work.

Husqvarna 359 Chainsaw Specs Price

What is a good price for a used Husky 359?

It’s hard to say for sure, but you can expect to pay between $200 and $400.

If you can get one for less than $200, it’s probably a good deal, especially since they’re getting harder to find.

As always, it will depend on how it looks and if any parts have been replaced or if it’s been changed in any way.

When it came out, the Husqvarna 359 cost around $600.

Husky 359 Chainsaw Specs Leaking Bar Oil

Husqvarna 359 Chainsaw Specs

Not just the Husqvarna 359, but most chainsaws leak oil from the bar. It’s something they’re known for.

Inner oil feed pipes for a Husky 359, as well as for most other models, can be bought for $10 or less.

Here are some other ideas on how to deal with a 359 leaking oil:

⇒Put a fuel-resistant gasket maker around the hose that fits into the oil tank
⇒Use Permatex Motoseal to create a tough flexible bond if you know where it’s leaking
⇒Silicon, where the line goes into the tank, may also solve it
⇒Try an aftermarket oil pump like this one
⇒Consider and check if the case is cracked

It’s not new for a chainsaw to leak bar oil, and it’s not the end of the world if it does. But it’s a pain and something you should take care of!

Changes to the 359 Chainsaw Specifications

What are the best ways to give the 359 more power?

  • Porting and a muffler mod wake these saws up big time – you could see a 25% gain with no machine work.
  • Lower transfers – open up the lower transfers
  • Base gasket delete and port the cylinder

Here is where you can learn how to port a Husqvarna 359 Chainsaw.

Husqvarna 359 Engine Problems

You just bought or were given one of these chainsaws, but you’re having trouble starting it or finding other problems with it.

Husqvarna 359 Chainsaw Specs

Here are some of the things to consider and check:

  • Oil pump seals and hose
  • Check for an air leak – the seals or intake could be leaking
  • The fuel tank pickup filter could be dirty/clogged
  • Check the compression
  • Could have a cracked gas line (may need new carb and all new lines)
  • If it has a plastic intake clamp replace the intake boot and clamp
  • Check the spark plug – they can stop sparking inside the cylinder when they get close to the operating temperature

The Walbro carburetor that came with the Husqvarna 359 chainsaws has an accelerator pump that often breaks.

If you replace the carb and update the intake, you might be able to fix the problem. You will need a Zama carburetor without an accelerator pump to replace it. You can get these on eBay for about $20, or you can search for “Zama C3 El-42.”

It might be easy to fix. For example, are all the screws on the top plate of the carburetor tight? That’s sometimes all it takes to get her humming.
