Ford has a wide range of trucks and SUVs, but the 2024 Explorer is the best one for a family.

With three rows of seats and a lot of cargo space, the Ford Explorer is a good choice for people who need to carry kids and all their stuff. Most drivers will be happy with the Explorer’s base engine, a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder with 300 horsepower.

However, a hybrid powertrain and a 400-hp twin-turbo V-6 engine are also available.

Even though the Ford Explorer has a lot of tech features and driver aids, its overall package isn’t as polished as other mid-size competitors like the Kia Telluride, the Hyundai Palisade, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, which are just more refined.

 Ford Explorer Reviews

Ford Explorer

“It makes sense on many levels to switch back to traditional rear-wheel drive (an all-wheel drive is an option). When you stop trying to steer and drive a car from the same end, the handling and balance get a lot better.

Stability when towing and choosing a powertrain are also improved. In fact, the Explorer is one of the better choices for towing in the class of midsize three-row SUVs.”

Even though it’s big and good for families, the new Explorer is for people who want their SUV to be tough. The standard 2.3-liter turbo engine has more power and torque than the V6 engines of its competitors. It also gets better gas mileage than those engines.

The optional turbocharged V6 engines, on the other hand, beat everything else in the segment, with the Explorer ST having the most power at 400 horsepower.- Critics Say

FAQs About Ford Explorer Engine

Ford Explorer

⭐The fifth generation Ford Explorer has what kind of engine?

We suggest looking for a used fifth-generation Ford Explorer XLT with a 3.5L Duratec V6 if you want to buy one used.

We’d love to recommend the Sport because of how well it handles, but the Duratec engine is just too much better in terms of reliability for us to overlook in a used car.

⭐What does the 2020 Ford Explorer’s engine look like?

The Explorer’s engine lineup is getting a lot of work done for 2020. Ford gets rid of the standard 3.5-liter V6 (290 hp, 255 lb-ft) and the top-of-the-line 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost that used to come with the car (365 horsepower, 350 lb.-ft.).

This means that only the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine will be kept. The only other engine after the EcoBoost that is coming back is the new 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6. The 2020 model also has a new transmission instead of the 6-speed automatic from the last generation.

Read on to find out what the new engine pair and the improved 10-speed transmission have to offer.

⭐How much horsepower does an Explorer have?

The Explorer had this engine for the last three model years, from 2016 to 2019. At 5,600 rpm, the turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 280 hp at the wheel. This tiny powerhouse has 310 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm, which gives it a much-needed boost in the low range.

⭐What is the standard engine for the 2020 Explorer?

2.3L EcoBoost. The 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, which used to be the second option for the 2020 Explorer, will now be the standard engine. The new EcoBoost has 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, which is more powerful than before.
